My Bio

I'm a commercial pilot, flight instructor, and specialist in aviation youth outreach. Since 2013, I've been drawing living aircraft. I'm a nerd for the civilian side of the industry, with an artistic specialty in jet airliners and trainer airplanes. With a life full of fantastic winged visitors, I've also captured many photos. Whichever variety of artwork you prefer, enjoy this aviator's gallery!

About the Airplane Critters:

Fortunians are sentient aircraft, based on the old pilot legend that airplanes have souls, a unique personality forged from the experiences of everyone who's worked with them. With the addition of some fun sci-fi energy, they become flexible. They're not biological animals, nor are they AI. So, they don't have any extra animal features or robotic parts. They're simply wiggly airplanes!

November of 2023 marked my ten-year anniversary of posting living aircraft art on DA. I've since made a series of journal entries exploring the evolution of my characters. However, I'm running out of airplanes who have been present throughout the whole decade. Some didn't show up until later, some were phased out, and some are not in use because Boeing doesn't deserve them. (Maybe when Boeing gets their shit together, 80 will come out of retirement.) However, I do have characters which aren't airplanes. The humans have never been as popular with this community. Nevertheless, they are some of my most enduring characters. Let's talk about the pilots! They first showed up in my writing, not making an art debut until later. Some of those earliest drawings are no longer in my gallery because I really couldn't draw humans... For this journal, I'll skip the worst of that uncanny era. *** So, 2015! I do believe this was the first time I drew Niles and Alba. Since her earliest inception

A month ago, I (belatedly) celebrated my 10-year anniversary on DA by posting a journal with artwork of my favorite airplane character, Niles. Today, I'd like to highlight another jet who has lived in by head since 2013, Denver! I was inspired to do this compilation because I was gifted some great fan art of him. [ leopard - gift ] on Scratch (mit.edu) It's animated! Shout out to @foxerjexu Niles has been very consistent over the years. Denver has... not... Whereas Niles was created for my story, Denver first showed up in roleplays. That's a chaotic environment to begin with, and I was 15. This character was an airplane-shaped manifestation of teenaged angst. ... 2013! The first appearance of a United 787-8 in my gallery. Officially, this wasn't Denver yet. The other airplane enthusiastically hugging him is 80 (albeit a very outdated version). At the time, I was actively using 80 as a sona. The purpose of this drawing was to express my unbridled joy after flying on 787s. In 2013

November marked my 10-year anniversary of posting living aircraft art to DA. I've since changed accounts a few times. I made the eightyator account in 2016, trying to present myself a little more professionally. (Older accounts came with a healthy dose of teen angst...) So, while this account may only be seven years old, I've been around here for ten. November of 2013 was an entire decade ago, and that blows my mind. In that time, all my characters have changed. Most of them, I no longer have any idea what to do with. But I wanted to recognize one which has been with me for a long time. He lives rent free in by brain, and I appreciate the company. I thought it might be fun to look at a decade of art through the lens of my favorite character. Let's begin with this guy, the first living aircraft to grace my sketchbook in February of 2013. Is this Niles yet? No, not exactly. Heck, he's barely recognizable as a 737. But this image of a charismatic 737 was foundational to everything I
